With Introductions and History of Doubt, artist Alison Yip questions the relationship between unicorn and (young) woman as a dangerous, abysmal and sensual encounter. Formally and motivically, her works reference familiar historical narratives, but she allows them to appear faded, inverted, and alienated in her paintings. Introductions resembles the book cover of a fairy tale book in its layout and shows the encounter of two figures in opposing extreme perspectives. History of Doubt focuses on the painful and erotic aspect of the relationship with reference to art historical representations of Lucretia and Raphael's Lady and the Unicorn (1505-1507).
