Sense of Selfed
1 – 30 August 2015
Jessica Gispert (born 1984, lives and works in Düsseldorf) from Miami, makes work that deal with pop-cultural phenomena and the influence it has on building one’s identity, self-enactment and hypersexualisation.
Gispert plays with her fascination for extraordinary materials and esotericism, odd color combinations and sensory perception. Sometimes on the border between seduction and infantilization, her works create mixed feelings that are supposed to result in the arousal of a skeptical view.
During the summer series, young artists develop an exhibition which is explicitly fit for a reception from the outside. The access to the exhibition is only possible at the vernissage, from then on it can only be observed from the circular window facade of the Dortmunder Kunstverein. This format enables passer-bys to experience art outside of opening hours, day or night.
